You all may listened a word shaktipeeth, now what is shaktipeeth? According to legends its a story of the death of the goddess Sati. Out of grief and sorrow, Shiva carried Sati's body, reminiscing about their moments as a couple, and roamed around the universe with it. Vishnu had cut her body into 52 body parts, using his Sudarshana Chakra, which fell on Earth to become holy spots in which to pray to the Goddess named Shakti Peeths. To complete this massively long task, Lord Shiva took the form of Bhairav.

Lest's see brief information about all shaktipeeth:
1. Mithila, Bihar
Devi's left shoulder fell here and the idols are Devi as Mahadevi (Devi) and Shiva as Mahodara (the big belied one). Besides, It is also whispered that the divine Janki temple is a famous Shakti Peeth since Janakpur is the birth place of Maa Sita.

2. Vaidhnath, Bihar
Devi's heart fell here and the idols are Devi as Jaidurga (Victorious Durga) and Shiva as Vaidyanath. It is in Bihar.

3. Magadh, Bihar
This city of Patna used to be known by the name “Magadha” in earlier times. Devi's right thigh fell here and the idols are Devi as “Sarvanandkari” and Shiva as “Vyomkesha”. According to the Tantra Charumani, the small images of the Bari Patan Devi Temple, Patna are the Goddess Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati. In Hindu mythology, these Goddesses protected Putraka, who was the founder of Pataliputra.

4. Janasthan, Maharashtra
Devi's chin fell here and the idols are Devi as Bhramari (female Bumble bee or attendant of Durga) and Shiva as Vikrakatakkha (one with the crooked eyes or look). Other names are Devi as Chibuka (the one with the chin) and Shiva as Sarvasiddhish (the one who can provide all desires). Besides, according to the another fairy tale, a divine power – Kalika (the dark goddess - Bhramari Devi) destroys egocentric devils, despite the fact that Goddess is surrounded by black bees (a siddh-mantra “Hring” sound formulate by bees).

5. Karvir, Maharashtra
Devi's three eyes fell here and the idols are Devi as Mahishmardini (Durga the destroyer of Mahishashur) and Shiva as Krodhish (the one who can be angry). It is also believed that the divine powers – both Shri Lakshmi and Shri Vishnu dwell in the Karveer region.

6. Ramgiri, Madhya Pradesh
The second of Devi's breasts fell here (another opinion is that her Nala or Jaghanasti or Bone of the Abdomen fell here) and the idols are Devi as Shivani (the wife of Shiva) and Shiva as Chanda. Moreover, according to the legends, it is also believed that Devi Sati’s “Bone of the stomach” or Nala fell here and this holy place is dedicated to ‘Maa Sharda’, placed at Maihar, in Madhya Pradesh, India.

7. Shaun, Madhya Pradesh
Shaun Shakti Peetha whereon Goddess Narmada as an incarnation of Goddess Shakti is worshipped and Lord Vadrasen in form of Lord Shiva comes in vision to be worshipped. Sona (Narmada) Temple at the source point of Narmada River in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh. Devi’s left hip fell here. The idols are Devi “Naramad (Shonashi) as and Shiva as “Bharashen”

8. Ujjaini, Madhya Pradesh
Devi's elbows fell here and the idols are Devi as Mangalchandi (Durga) and Shiva as Kapilambar (one who wears the brown clothes). Shiva is siddhidayaka.

9. Godavritat, Andhra Pradesh
Devi's left cheek fell here and the idols are Viswamatruka or Rukmati (mother of the world) and Shiva as Dandapani (the one who holds a force). Alternatively, it is believed thatseveral great personalities like Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Baladev have bathed in holy river Godavari.

10. Shree sail, Andhra Pradesh
Part of Devi’s neck fell here. This place is located in Andhra Pradesh and is a very famous pilgrimage spot. Lord Shiva is also called as “Mallikharjuna Swamy” .The main idols of this legendary divine place are Devi as “Mahlakshmi” (goddess of wealth) and Lord Shiva as “Shambaranand or Mallikharjuna Swami”. Besides, the divine place is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Sharines devoted to Lord Shiva.

11. Vrundavan, Uttar Pradesh
Uma Shakti Peetha located in Vrindavan is one of the 51 Shaktipeethas where the ‘Ringlets of Hair’ of Devi Sati have fallen. Here the worship idols are – Devi as Uma (also known as another name of Goddess Parvati) and Lord Shiva as Bhootesh. Moreover, a divine power of the Universe “Katyayani shakti peetha” is the birthplace of Lord Krishna, where he grew up, also saved the village from Kaliya Naga and lifted the Goverdhana hill on his little finger

12. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Devi's earrings (Kundal) fell here and the idols are Devi as VishwaLakschmi (The provider of wealth to all) and Shiva as “Kala” or “Kalbhairav” (Time or the end of time). The Puranas say that this city exists even after the Pralaya. The famous place ‘Manikarnika’ is located here and named so because the ear ring of goddess was like pearl (mani).

13. Prayag, Uttar Pradesh
Three sacred rivers (Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati) meet here and that is why this place gets the name Prayag. This is also called as the Prayagraj, as this is the chief of all the 14 (Chaturdasa) prayags throughout India. Devi's ten fingers fell here and the idols are Devi as Lalita (beautiful). Another name is Alopi and Shiva as Bhava.

14. Jwalamukhi, Himachal Pradesh
According to the Hindu myths, it is whispered that Devi Sati’s “Tongue”fell here and divinity is exhibit as blue inferno (flames). The idols are Devi as Ambika (Mother) or Shididhada and Shiva as Unmatta (Furious). Besides, according to the another fairy tale, divine power Maa Durga became visible in a dream of a Brahmin and inquired him about the tongue in the form of small flames on Kangra hills

15. Bhairav parvat, Madhya Pradesh
Devi's upper lips fell here and idols are Devi as Avanti (Modest) and Shiva as Lambakarna (Long eared one). It is located near Ujjain.

16. Sugandha, West Bengal
Devi's nose fell here and idols are Devi as Sunanada (Pleasing) and Shiva as Traimbak (Rudra). A large number of worshippers visit this place at Shiva-Chaturdashi (a religious occasion on the 14th moon during March)

17. Kirit, West Bengal
Devi's crown or headdress fell here and idols are Devi as Vimala (Pure) and Shiva as Sangbarta. There is no statue of Goddess Kiriteshwari also known as Mukuteshwari at this point, only ‘Red colored stone’ is worshipped by devotees as a superlative power of Durga Shakti.
